The Bee Shares Her World ~ Brexit, Changing Attitude and other Subconscious Thought Processes #SYW

Hi there, fellow bloggers and readers,

I have been a little quiet of late because I was working on bettering our situation as well as bettering my attitude. Last Monday I saw by accident that the care home I applied for last year is looking again for an Activities Coordinator. I have a degree in social work with specialisation on working with the elderly and that is my dream job. So I applied again but haven’t heard anything yet.

Also by accident, I opened a different file on my Google Drive and ended up reading my journal entries from last year. It astonished me that I am still working on my financial situation and nothing has changed. Well, its gone worse if nothing else. I could, of course, apply for benefits but it looks like my 11 years working for the supermarket gives me exactly 6 months support and guess what? I didn’t come here to get benefits. I came here for work and so I stick to my decision to work for my income no matter what. Which is why I create on “The Bee Creates” and will do what needs doing to make my page known and find the crowd that is willing to buy. They are somewhere out there :-).

Description for visually impaired readers: White screen with an illustration of three trees. The canopy have different colours (light green, redish, dark green). On top it says “The Bee Creates”, then a menue of the content. Underneath the tree it says in black writing: Poetry. Mugs. Photos. Then the invitations text and four boxes with links to different pages

But it got me thinking. Over the last year, I have read a lot about manifesting and how your attitude to yourself makes an impact on how successful you are. For a sports person, it is as important to believe he or she can win than to actually practise their sport. I was reading up on successful business people who follow the same principle: They surround themselves with positive people, situations and books and they know exactly what they want which in turn leads them to the right decisions. My conclusion is, that we entirely underestimate the power of our intentions, thoughts and attitudes.

If we’d all be are of how much of what we want to change has to do with our attitude than with the actual physical behaviour we would not worry so much about diets, organisation or exercise but would examine what attitude makes us act the way we act and then work on the attitude. I did and I realised that my overall underlying attitude is: I can’t do it. I can’t keep it up. It’s too much. I do it wrong. (Yes, I know also something I am writing about for years… 😦 )

These thoughts are so ingraned that they appear automatically and I don’t even realise I think like that. So this morning I wondered what if what I do currently is all exactly what I need to do to achieve my dream of working from home and to write. What if I stop judging my actions and just do the next step and the next most important thing. What if I don’t worry anymore about what happened in the past and what will happen in the future. I am here now. Not tomorrow or yesterday. That’s all an illusion. Well, I will see how things change over the next few months.

A post shared by Very Brexit Problems (@verybrexitproblems) on

Yes, attitude. Britain has an attitude problem I think. Looking at the Brexit procedures I just tear my hair, run around like a mad woman and scream and shout like a maniac. What on earth is wrong with people? So you don’t want to answer to Europe anymore? Well, then ruin your economy and don’t follow their rules then you can do what you want, trade with whom you want and how you want to. I bet someone already created a new East India Company to make Britain great again. God help us all…

I am not sure if I should laugh or cry about the whole mess that is going on. In my opinion, no matter where it goes it will end in a much bigger mess than we already have. We get a no deal Brexit? No food and traffic jams from Dover to Bristol will plague the land. A peoples vote and no Brexit? The Brexiteers will start another civil war. This whole Brexit thing is a Gordian knot that no one can solve. If any of the big-mouthed Brexiteer Tories would really believe they could get a better deal than Theresa May they would have already gotten rid of her. All of them know, that leavers have promised heaven on earth and we all know if it sounds too good to be true it is too good to be true. But it looks to me like those who believe Brexit is a good thing live in another universe. Or are keen on globalisation and AI taking over the country. Ok, rant over.

Here goes the attitude again. Didn’t I say at the beginning of the year I want to be more positive because I believe positivity will change things not negativity. Well, Brexit forms my limits. I have nothing left than sarcasm when it comes to politicians who are not willing to tell their people the truth: You’ve been lied to. It’s not gonna happen what you hope for.  You can’t have cake and eat it!

Well, I have no cake but Melanie has some questions for us so I answer (and don’t eat) them  😉 : SYW 1-14-19

You’re walking in a forest and you find a black suitcase. Inside it is one millions dollars and a piece of paper, stained in blood and bearing the single word “Don’t!” Would you take the suitcase home or leave it?

I’d leave it and call the cops. I am an avid reader I know that these things never end well….

Imagine you lapsed and cheated on your partner. You feel horrible and you know you’ll never do it again, because the feeling is so awful. Would you confess?

Not gonna happen: found my soulmate so no cheating and no confessing necessary!

Would you live your life differently if nobody ever judged you for anything you did?

I doubt it

Would a fly without wings be called a walk? No? What would you call it?

I think “Every Flavour Bean” would be suitable 😉

What’s something that brought joy and lightness of being to you this past week?

My husband!!! His dedication to his family and his hard work to keep us afloat is amazing. I am not sure he is aware of how much I appreciate him working so much despite his chronic back pain that drives him crazy sometimes.

And that’s it for now. I hope to get some time later on to read other participants entries. If not please bear with me I will sooner or later come around to your posts!

The Bee Shares Her World ~ January 8th, 2019

So this morning I saw Tom Kerridge on BBC Breakfast. He introduced his new show “Fresh Start” in which he is going to help families back into the habit of cooking from scratch. The reason I mention it is that the best husband (Jeremy Clarkson voice) in the world and I are talking about this continuously. We are quite militant when it comes to cooking and baking from scratch.

We both worked in a supermarket bakery and know what goes into the so-called bread in the supermarkets. They sell artisan bread which should not have a lot of yeast in it but many bakers put too much in, hygiene isn’t always fully adhered too unless they have a visit and there are so many ingredients to the bread that you don’t really need for baking. Bread is basically flour, water, salt and yeast. That’s it. No taste enhancer (that is why you let bread proof ~ it gives it taste) and nothing to keep it fresh longer. The reason shop bought bread needs these sort of chemicals is because they are using low-quality flour to get more profit.

It has become a huge pet peeve of ours and I wrote so often about what we are starting to make ourselves because let’s face it: You never know what supermarkets, industrial food producers and restaurants really put in the food that you buy. If you make it yourself you know more of what’s in it. Of course, the ingredients you buy might be contaminated with stuff but you can always go organic or even grow some of it yourself. As they say: if you really want it you find a way and if you don’t you find an excuse!

Funny that the Brexit slogan “getting power back” had that impact on us. Brexit means that we lose power in Europe. Britain was a powerful player in the EU and once we are out we have no say in it anymore but will have to abide by their rules if we want to trade with them. So the British won’t really gain any power. And the drama “Brexit – the Uncivil War” showed that this was just a slogan that worked into the fears and hopes of everyday people. It meant nothing but winning the game which it did.

An area where you really can gain power back is the food you put in your mouth. I know, it needs organising and maybe learning some new skills but Tom Kerridge mentioned it several times this morning that it saves you money, is an easy way to eat healthier and brings your family together and who doesn’t want that? But well, in the end, it is your decision where you want to gain your power back. We’ve taken ours and we are glad that Tom Kerridge makes a point and even a tv program of it.

That was a long start to sparkly Melanie’s “Share your World”, wasn’t it? Well, I thought I might as well share a little more than just the answers to her questions. And that is what occupied me today. But what did Melanie ask? Find her questions and answers here and also how to take part.

Did you have to help out with chores when you were growing up? If so, what were you assigned to do?

Blimey, there was a lot when my mum got ill and later passed away. I did the shopping & cleaned my dad’s car to get pocket money. For a while, when my mum had passed away and my dad worked elsewhere I was responsible for the whole house including caring for my little brother so everything from gardening, shopping, getting us breakfast and dinner (we got lunch which is a hot meal in Germany either at my godmothers or volunteers who helped families in need), making sure we got to school in time, washing, ironing etc. That was at a time when my father had fallen out with my grandmother who was taking care of us before. Well, my life was a little complicated when I was young 🙂 but I was prepared well for moving out 😉

Have you ever researched your family tree? What do you know about your family’s roots?

No, I haven’t but want to sometime. My dad’s family comes from the East of Germany and the East that doesn’t belong to Germany anymore. My grandad on my father’s side grew up on a big German estate in an area that is now partly Russian partly Estonian at the Baltic Sea. His father was the estate manager. He talked about it often. My grandma on my father’s side grew up close to Dresden and her family was occupied with different ways of retail. I know not much of my mother’s side just that my grandparent’s who were very religious helped many refugees from Eastern Europe after the war. They were very revered in the village I grew up in. And it might be that Georg Elser is somehow related to us but I haven’t found any proof of that.

What’s your cure for hiccups?

Holding your breath, while keeping your ears & nose closed and swallowing. It’s a bit of a feat because your hands need to stretch: I keep my nose closed with my little fingers and the ears with my thumbs and swallowing is rather difficult that way. But hey it works.

What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it? Either figuratively or literally?

Taking ones’ power back, Brexit, Trump, climate change & Holocaust deniers…. the list is endless 😉

Finally:

Share a gratitude or positive moment or experience from 2019 so far.

I am incredibly grateful for the more or less little things

The Bee Shares Her World ~ #SYW or Share Your World 15.10.18

This week we go without further ado into Spark’s questions 🙂

What’s the biggest screw up in the kitchen that you were responsible for?

It’s been a couple of times that I nearly burned the kitchen down. I had a sort of hen party when I got married the first time way back when…. :-). We didn’t go anywhere but my friends came around and we had some fun where I used to live. I was cooking something for them before they came around but got distracted. So I had oil in a pan starting to burn. Whoopsie! Somehow I had my nerves together and put the lid on which killed of the fire so no big harm was done. But I had to clean the kitchen a little afterwards. That should have been a warning to me though 😉

What, in your opinion, makes people believe absurd conspiracy theories?

Well, who knows? The older I get the more I wonder about reality and what’s what. What we consider absurd might turn out as true and what we consider true might turn out to be a total illusion.

You heard the expression “Half-life of facts”? It means the time that it needs for half of today’s facts or knowledge to be proven wrong. According to Wikipedia, it’s 45 years.

So who knows? Do you?

In 40 years what will people be nostalgic for?

Facts. Knowledge. Forests. Flowers. Growing food. Summers without a heatwave and winters without storms…

Is a hot dog a sandwich?

No

And finally:

What wonderful thing happened to you this week that you’d like to share? It can be a gratitude moment or something that just made you feel very happy at the time or made you laugh.

My family and our dog. All of them make me laugh and very, very happy!

THE BEE SHARES HER WORLD ~ #SYW OR SHARE YOUR WORLD 8.10.18

So, I had a phone conversation with my bank which went fairly well even though it needed over 45 minutes. They were very helpful, however, they hit up all my anxieties about money and as I, of course, hadn’t had my St. Johnswort the day before I went down the “I can’t deal with this” spiral. I had planned for yesterday to schedule any posts I can schedule for this week so I have some time to work on my “The Bee Creates” project but that wall hit me and I just wanted to hide under the duvet and most of all quit any challenges I so enthusiastically have started in the last couple of weeks.

Well, been there, done that, got the t-shirt! And that is exactly where I do not want to go AGAIN. What did I do. Posted some old posts for yesterday. Helped the husband move some wood from our garden to the shed to start getting a grip on the rat infestation. Made myself a cup of St. Johnswort tea.

My experience is that if I give in to that feeling that I can’t deal with any of the things I want to do then I have lost to the black dog. I have also experiences of doing too much which has as bad an effect. Usually, I need to give myself a little time and figure out what the right thing is at that precise moment. This time it’s a compromise. #Whatif needs to wait for a little but I challenge myself to keep doing the other challenges.

So here I am doing my best to share my world today 🙂

Here are Sparks suggestions on how to take part…

My answers to Spark’s “Share your World” Questions.

Do you prefer Apple (‘I’ products) or Android for your technology ‘fix’?

Android. I can’t remember ever having to use an apple device. I think I have used Itunes at some point but that did not impress me particularly.

What’s something on your personal bucket list?

Travelling far and wide with the best husband (Jeremy Clarkson voice) in the world. The first thing we want to do: Belated honeymoon to Scotland 🙂

What would you name your boat if you had one?   The Unsinkable 3? The Please Don’t Sink? Your choice! Also, what would it look like? Do you want a motor yacht, a sailboat, or perhaps a dinghy?

How on earth does she come up with these questions???? Made me laugh out loud and that’s a very good thing. Well, I would go for one of those Narrowboats on one of the British canals. In fact, before we had the chance to buy the house we considered buying one and do it up. No canal close by so we didn’t. And naming it? “In the deep end” maybe?

Which fictional character would be the most boring to meet in real life?

Whoopsie. My mind has gone blank. Totally. Not sure I would find any fictional character boring to meet. Even the most boring ones could give a little more insight into its story.  I’d like knowing what’s behind them.

And finally:

What brought gratitude, a smile or laughter to your life this week?

So, that is an important one for me today. Practising gratitude is one of my biggest and best “weapons” against the downward spiral. So here we go:

A rescued ex-racer greyhound who gets more and more relaxed and happy in our house

A loving family, that rocks!

Friends who are compassionate.

Books

More or less good home cooking 😉

A woman as Dr Who :-))

The Bee Shares her World ~ #SYW or Share Your World 1.10.18

Sparks from “Sparks from a Combustible Mind” asked us some very interesting questions this week. Thanks for keeping the “Share Your World” blog event going, Sparks.

I suggest you visit her blog and her and the other participants “Share your World” posts. They boggle your mind and touch your heart. Definitely worth checking out!

Before I have a go at this week’s answer here are the suggestions on how to take part:

  • I usually will respond to your entry on your blog, rather than on my page.”

    Questions:

What’s your go-to for unwinding after a stressful event or day?   Can be someone or something – music, pets, family or whatever you choose.

Cup of tea, hug the dog and cuddle the husband. 🙂

The plane you’re flying in is going to crash, no survivors.  If you had one song you could listen to before it happens, what would it be?  (credit to NewEpicAuthor for this one). Please share the link to the song if you can.

Now that was one I needed to ponder. I decided on a Yiddish song I used to listen to when I was a teenager. There was a German folk group called Zupfgeigenhansel that discovered songs from the Jewish Ghettos and made an LP with it (yes my younger readers there was a time before the blessed music streaming services 😉 ). I found all of them hauntingly beautiful but the one I loved the most and often sang when I was frustrated and anxious working at the supermarket is “Oj Dortn Dortn“. A love song as much as I can gather. I would think of my husband but most likely he would be at my side anyway….

What is one thing you’re really, really good at and not ashamed to admit it?  I worded that deliberately because aren’t we taught to be humble and not pushy about our achievements?  Celebrate your ability!

I think I am good at encouraging others. Encouraging them not only to follow their dreams but also to be kind to themselves and to believe in themselves.

Would you rather lose all of your money and valuables or all of the pictures you have ever taken?

Money and valuables

And lastly

What were you grateful for or something that made you smile during the past month?

Last week I did a really long list but this time I shall do the all good things come in threes 🙂

  1. My family

2. Our dog

And

3. Music

All three are both: I am grateful for them and they made me smile a lot in September!

So, life is a riddle. At least it is to me. But the blogosphere is a great place to find answers. Also to find creative writing and other prompts. Not that I need the prompts but it is such a great way to find blogs to connect with. I love the fact that it is so easy to connect all over the world nowadays.

I’ve heard a lot and read a lot about the “Share your World” prompt and so I thought I try it out and see what will come from it. Ah… exciting.

Share your World has just changed the hostess from Cee to Melanie. Thanks to both for hosting. Find this week’s prompt here.

And here are the rules copied from Melanie’s blog:

Rules

‘I will post four or five different questions each week for you to answer. There are two ways which you can participate.

Ok, let’s see what my world can offer you 😉

Questions:

Last week I asked a question about favorite beverages and the overwhelming favorite was coffee. If you drink coffee, how do you like it best? Hot, cold, iced, with cream, with sugar or black as black?

Coffee is a treat for me. I am a hardcore tea drinker from herbal to green to black to…
Every now and then though I love a good cup of coffee. Usually hot but always with milk and at least a pinch of cinnamon. And if I can be bothered also cardamom and cloves.

If you don’t drink coffee, how has that beverage impacted YOUR world?

Well, I would love to drink more coffee. Yes, I know its supposed to be unhealthy but it is quite nice and gives the day a good kick. However, my stomach doesn’t like too much of it. It gets rather sore otherwise. So it might not have impacted my world too much but it definitely impacts my stomach ;-).

In your opinion, what’s the greatest invention of our age?

Hmmm. Difficult: There are so many. I think human rights and free speech. But I also agree with Melanie’s indoor plumbing. And then there is the internet. And washing machines. And…

Global warming? Reality or myth?

According to scientists and my experience of the weather recently ~ Biest from the East, heatwave and both in the UK!!!!!! ~ definitely reality. I cannot fathom how people can make themselves believe the weather isn’t changing. Well, if you are a politician and earn something from the lies fair enough but “normal” citizens? Must be the “head in the sand” syndrome…

Are you an explorer or more a homebody?

I am definitely both. Contradiction? Of course. But that’s me :-). I love to travel and even if it is only around here to find a new path to walk the dog. But there is nothing like coming home to the best husband (Jeremy Clarkson voice) in the world and a nice cup of tea!!!!

and last:

What were you grateful for this week?

Wow, a lot:

The husband
His gorgeous children.
My step mum and my mother-in-law: Ladies you rock!

Our rescue greyhound

The roof over our head and our garden (thank goodness we love courgettes 😉 )

My ability to read and write
Having something to eat every day
My friends on and offline. You rock people!!!!
My health

The nice weather we have this week…
