Love Is In Da Blog 18 ~ My Favourite Queer Love Song & Prompt Post for February 19th

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, our time travel is over and still so many songs to share. Again I want to mention LightmotifsII, A Unique Title to me, TeleportingWeena, My Rattled Cage and Janet’s Smile who are taking part and sharing so many beautiful songs. Thanks, fellow bloggers for making this event worthwhile! And if I missed someone, sorry. Please let me know and I add you 🙂 .

It is ironic that this morning’s “A Prompt A Day For Bee” mentions the musical “Rent” because one of its songs is what I’ve chosen for my queer song today. There is a word in German that is written similarly. It is “Quer” and means “wonky” or “crosswise” and I suspect that is what “being queer” means too: Being out of the ordinary, not following the rules or the norm.

However, I’ve always wondered what is the norm when it comes to love. Why is it such a problem if a man loves a man or if a person feels that she was born in the wrong gender? There is more under heaven and earth than we usually are willing to see or observe and I wish for a world where everybody is allowed to love as they please as long as all parties are able to consent and do consent. And surely if its love it is a good thing no matter who loves who?

The song I have chosen is “Seasons of Love” which I believe is one of the most beautiful and true love songs I have ever heard. Some years ago I was listening to it all the time but now I am more into Muse or Hozier 🙂 .

The beginning lines…

“525,600 minutes
525,000 moments so dear
525,600 minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?

In daylights, in sunsets, in midnights, in cups of coffee
In inches, in miles, in laughter, in strife
In 525,600 minutes
How do you measure a year in the life?

How about love? (source A-Z Lyrics)

…always get me because that is what life is about: it’s about sunsets, cups of coffee and love and not about minutes, gender stereotypes or business success. We forget that so often.

Love comes in so many forms and we should not be disregarding them just because we do not understand them. I like that Native American saying: “Never criticize a man until you’ve walked a mile in his moccasins.” And while I know I am rather fast in judging people who do not follow my political ideals I try to learn not to do that. People always have viable reasons why they believe in what they believe in and why they act how they act.

I am losing my train of thought here I think.

Life is short and love is often hard to come by so we better appreciate it in any form that is given to us than rejecting it because it doesn’t fulfil our standards. Am I preaching? Probably. Never mind. I felt like it today and I hope you forgive me. So here is the song:

LOVE IS IN DA BLOG MUSIC PROMPT FOR FEBRUARY 19TH

I admit February might not be the most preferred month for getting married even though the 14th might lend itself for a good wedding. Still “love and marriage go together like a horse a carriage” as we heard many times through Frank Sinatra and the sitcom “Married… with Children” 😉 . So tomorrow we share our

Most favourite Wedding Song

and if you are not married use the one you would have love to have. (Why do I think of “Muriel’s Wedding” now???? 🙂 ) Please have fun no matter what!!!

Love Is In Da Blog 17 ~ A Love Song from 2019 & Prompt Post for February 18th

Hello ladies and gentlemen, I am so thrilled to read your posts and listen to your songs every day. Thanks so much for taking part. I feel honoured!

We have arrived! The time travel is over and we can share a love song from 2019. Well, I am cheating! I share one that was released in November 2018 but I haven’t heard it until January 2019 so I guess it counts 😉

It is Miley Cyrus singing a Mark Ronson song “Nothing Breaks like a Heart”. When I heard it first I thought: “What the …” but it grew on me fast. Especially when I saw her standing on those blocks with the car behind her. I think that is a brilliant picture.

I also think the lyrics have a point. Nothing does break like a heart! We all probably experienced it many times over in our life. I would add though that nothing heals like a heart too. Hearts are resilient, creative and very very strong in my opinion. They might choose strange and sometimes unhealthy ways of surviving but surviving they do all the same.

It’s not that I am a particular fan of Miley Cyrus but I believe she is a great artist. It’s not easy to grow up in the shadow of a famous father and godmother and I can imagine that her more outrageous phase around 2013 was a belated teenage outrage to find her own style. She is a great singer and songwriter though and I like several of her songs.

I don’t know much about Mark Ronson. He did work with Amy Winehouse and I think these are pretty much the only songs I know by him.  This song though has captured me somehow probably because of Cyrus’s darker voice her way of giving the song an edge. I like that. But now enough words. Here you go:

Love Is In Da Blog Music Prompt for February 18th

In my explanation for what “Love Is In Da Blog” stands for I often write it is about “Love in all its shapes and forms”. There is love for ourselves, for our family, for our friends, between men and women, men and men and women and women and many more shapes that is too much for us to count.

For me, it is important also to be open-minded and to make others aware of the issues that LGBT  is facing and whatever else there is attached nowadays (I know this is probably not politically correct but hey I only know so much my dears…). That is why I chose

A Queer Love Song

as prompt for our posts on February 18th.

According to WikipediaQueer is an umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities who are not heterosexual or cisgender. Originally meaning “strange” or “peculiar”, queer came to be used pejoratively against those with same-sex desires or relationships in the late 19th century. Beginning in the late 1980s, queer activists, such as the members of Queer Nation, began to reclaim the word as a deliberately provocative and politically radical alternative to the more assimilationist branches of the LGBT community.[1][2]…”

Please feel free to post about other forms of love if this topic is uncomfortable for you. That is perfectly fine. But I would be grateful if you feel you could challenge yourself to have a look into this topic.

Love Is In Da Blog 15 ~ A Love Song from 1999-2008 & Prompt Post for February 16th

Ladies and gentlemen, Welcome, Bonjour, Guten Tag, Bounjorno… unfortunately I don’t know any other morning greetings ;-). It’s afternoon here anyway… never mind.

So where are? Ah, 1999-2008! It seems to me now that it was a rather quiet decade even though the horrible 9/11 happened. This horrendous terrorist attack is probably the reason why so many now go back to nationalism and being hostile to any minority that takes your fancy.

What the world needs now is love sweet love and that is what we are spreading here. So, which song do I choose today? One of my all-time favourites of a band I really am a fan of now. The band is Muse and the song is “Bliss”. We had a video recorder in those days and I recorded songs from M-TV and others (yes, outed: I am a pirate 😉 ). For about 4 hours I then had music that I liked. Blimey, we really had to work for our music lists, didn’t we? Not like today where you can create your own list on a streaming service.

But I digress. I liked “Bliss” but never really got into the band itself or any of their other songs which I find a little strange nowadays. The main reason why I liked the song was the video. It was different. It was cool. And I loved it.

The decade was another turbulent one for me. I left my ex-husband, got an English boyfriend and moved to the UK at the end of it. That for the “quiet” decade LOL. But enough of my nostalgia let’s listen to Muse:

Little did I know then that this band’s music would keep sane some ten years later 😉

Love Is In Da Blog 14 ~ A Love Song from 1989-1998 & Prompt Post for February 15th

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, are you enjoying all the music? I hope so. There is nothing better than listening to a lovely tune when life happens 😉

So we are nearly through our time travel. Today we explore 1989-1998. Interesting times in Germany as you might remember. The wall came down, half of the East moved to the West and half of the Western businesses tried to cash in on the East.

Parts of my family lives in the East and strangely when the wall came down we lost contact. I also used to have a pen-friend in the East and it was strange to know that your letters might have been read by some communist authority. We did get them opened at times.

For me, 1989-1998 was a time when my continuous moving started. My father moved us to my step mum from the south to the middle of Western Germany in 87. I did my gap year in Berlin in 1991 and afterwards studied Muenster. Then I moved with my then husband to Meppen at the Dutch border. There is a traveller in me somewhere 😉

One of the German singer/songwriters was a constant companion of mine in those years. It’s Heinz Rudolf Kunze a former German teacher who gave up teaching in favour of music. His lyrics are often sarcastic and critical of what goes on in German politics and society. He is another one that I am not listening to much nowadays.

But he has also written a number of beautiful love songs and I have chosen one of my favourites for you. It is called “Leg nicht auf” which means “Don’t hang up”

I could not find any lyrics of this song online so I am transcribing them for you from this video:

Translation of Lyrics “Leg nicht auf” by Heinz Rudolf Kunze

I can listen to you until the planks break ( “Luegen bis die Balken sich biegen/lying until the planks break ” is a German saying and means to lie really lie well but HRK used it here differently)
and the night tilts out of the clock face
I like you and I want to lie with you
But for you I am only the man who shovels snow.
I understand you and I could prove it to you
At least give me the chance to be your shoulder.
What do you ask for?
We could now start travelling
and I sign into the hotel as your bodyguard.
Don’t hang up.
Listen to me.
I am as small as you are.
I know this part of you that always hurts well.
Don’t hang up
take your time
and I loan you an eternity
You can’t get happiness in the summer sales
Don’t hang up!
You are lonely
your mouth is tight like knives.
All people are lonely
when their wish doesn’t beat anymore.
Oh, I am longing
I want to sing for you
Be your silent ferryman
and the sea that carries you.
Don’t hang up
what you need is this dawdler.
I want to hear you quietly laughing
when you wake up.
Don’t hang up
be clever.
We vanish from the darkness.
There is always the hope run for us
Don’t hang up.
Don’t hang up.
Listen to me.
I am as small as you are.
I know this part of you that always hurts well.
Don’t hang up
take your time
and I loan you an eternity
You can’t get happiness in the summer sales
Don’t hang up!

*sigh* his music is so 80’s and makes me so nostalgic 🙂

PS: I know it’s Valentines Day today but I think its overrated and that is why there is no mention of it so far. Also, not everybody has a Valentine and hey, I celebrate love the whole month long! Surely that is enough admiration for the most important feeling in life????

Love Is In Da Blog 13 ~ A Love Song from 1979-1988 & Prompt Post for February 14th

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen,  let’s continue our musical time travel into the glorious ’80s 😉

I was a teenager in the ’80s and used to watch a chart program with a friend of mine every Monday evening. For the life of me, I can’t remember the name but it had a pink Isetta as a prop. The early ’80s were full of new German rock bands like Nena which you might know. But one of the first German-language rock bands were Ton Steine Scherben and I am a huge fan of their singer Rio Reiser who sadly passed away in 1996.

Both Rio Reiser and Ton Steine Scherben were connected with leftists political movements and supported the so-called squatting movement which was really big in Hamburg and Berlin. I remember the images of huge old houses where squatters looked out of the windows and the police tried to get them out. I didn’t understand much then but it already enraged me that people were evicted from houses that no one used anyway.

Maybe a similar movement will start soon here in the UK because homelessness has become a huge problem here with man families living in horrendous conditions even though the parents are working. Even though the bigger problem here is probably people who have second homes that they don’t use but which raise house prices so no normal earner can afford a home.

Ah, where is the love???? I digress. Sorry!

So, after I split up with my first boyfriend in 1987 I listened to a song by Rio Reiser called “Junimond” (June Moon). I was heartbroken and sometimes I saw my ex-boyfriend with his new girlfriend.  One of the lines of the song goes:” I see you coming but you pass me by” ah, and it made me cry every time. I love Reiser’s hoarse voice and his way of singing. It has never been smooth like ABBA’s for example but told the story of not fitting in, wanting positive change for everybody and the pain of lost love.

The song has had many covers since but the original is still the best.

Love Is In Da Blog 12 ~ A Love Song from 1969-1978 & Prompt Post for February 13th

Ladies and Gentlemen are you still with me? I hope so! I can’t believe that the songs I grew up with could be considered “oldies” now. After all its nearly 50 years ago. Where did all that time go? Well, we bring some of it back with this prompt.

The first music cassette I ever got was a “Best of ABBA” and I am not shy to admit that I still love ABBA songs. Well, I had a little dip in my appreciation when the first “Mamma Mia” film came out and I listen to the soundtrack for a whole shift at work. 8 hours of ABBA is too much even for me. Can you imagine how I rejoiced when the second one came out and I did not work?

ABBA was incredibly creative in the ’70s and got a few hits all over the world and no I am not going with “Mamma Mia” or “Waterloo”. The song I chose isn’t a particular love song but I believe it has to do with love for yourself and you know how much of a topic this is for me.

The song is “Eagle” and was recorded in 1977 when my brother was born. It wasn’t a particular chart success but according to Wikipedia was meant to be a tribute to “The Eagles” whom both  Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus admired. It was quite long apparently, got many edits and wasn’t even released in all countries.

I can’t remember why I liked it so much in the 70’s. I didn’t understand English then but the music spoke to me and today I like the shamanic idea of flying with eagles and being taught their wisdom.

Let’s not talk much more because many know a lot about ABBA anyway (and many hate them 😉 ) so here the song and later the new prompt:

Love Is In Da Blog 11 ~ A Love Song from 1959-1968 & Prompt Post for February 12th

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, to our Love Is In Da Blog Music Hall! I am having so much fun and am grateful for all you out there who honour me with your presence!!!!

Yesterday, I encouraged you to scour the music of the years 1959-1968. I love the music of the decade especially the lovely German tunes. This decade meant for Germany it could enjoy the fruits of the “Wunderjahre” or “Wirtschaftswunder” which means that Germany got over the war, had managed to rebuild the country with the help of the Marshall Plan and discovered they could go on holiday to Italy and later on to Spain.

I always wondered why exactly Italy and Spain, well besides of course that they are beautiful countries. Today I have started to wonder though if it has something to do with the fact that both countries were plagued with rather nasty dictators like Germany was. Who knows.

It might also have something to do with the fact that many immigrants from these countries came to Germany as it had more work than workforce in those days. The people who were called “Guest workers” often left their families or their girl- or boyfriends behind to make a living in Germany. Strangely I never wondered about the expression “Guest Worker” when I was young but now I find it a rather strange expression. Guests don’t work, do they?

But that aside, leaving your loved ones behind is a tough call no matter what people who do not like immigration to their countries might think. No matter how much money you can send home and make a better life for your family you never get the time back with your children or spouses and friends. That is an aspect many people do not think about.

One German song from 1962 speaks exactly of that problem. It is called “Zwei Kleine Italiener” or “Two Little Italiens” and describes two workers from Italy who go to the train station every day to see the train going down to Italy and longing for their girlfriends. Conny Froboess was a famous singer in those days and took part in the Eurovision Song Contest with that song in that year.

Now, I bet today you would think that song offensive because it implies that Italien people are smaller than others. When it comes to height it might be true but political correctness makes sure you don’t bang on too much about something like that. But I doubt the maker of that song intended to offend anyone.

I used to like the Eurovision Song Contest until they decided to change the rules and let everybody sing in English. Sorry English Language I  love you but I also love all other languages and I loved to hear the songs that I did not understand when I was young. We always watched it. I stopped watching it somewhere around 1990. I can’t really remember why. It just didn’t have the same appeal to me anymore. Maybe it simply got too big.

But history aside here is the jolly Germany tune

Oh Tina, oh Marina,/Oh Tina, Oh Marina
dann wird es wieder schön./Then it will be nice again.

Zwei kleine Italiener,/Two little Italians
vergessen die Heimat nie,/Never forget their home
die Palmen und die Mädchen/ the palms and the girls
am Strande von Napoli./ at the beach in Naples

Zwei kleine Italiener,/Two little Italians
die sehen es ein./they understand

Eine Reise in den Süden/A Journey to the South
ist für andre schick und fein,/is posh and lovely for other people
doch zwei kleine Italiener/but two little Italians
möchten gern zuhause sein./long to be at home

Oh Tina, oh Marina,/ Oh Tina, Oh Marina,
wenn wir uns einmal wiedersehn./when we’ll meet again.
Oh Tina, oh Marina,/Oh Tina, Oh Marina
dann wird es wieder schön./Then it will be nice again.

Zwei kleine Italiener/Two little Italians
am Bahnhof, da kennt man sie/ are known at the trainstation
sie kommen jeden Abend/they come every evening
zum D-Zug nach Napoli./to the fast train to Naples

Zwei kleine Italiener,/Two little Italians
die schaun hinter drein./ watch it go

.Eine Reise in den Süden/A journey to the South
ist für andre schick und fein,/ is posh and lovely for other people
doch zwei kleine Italiener/ but two little Italians
möchten gern zuhause sein./ long to be at home

Oh Tina, oh Marina,/ Oh Tina, Oh Marina,
wenn wir uns einmal wiedersehn./when we’ll meet again.
Oh Tina, oh Marina,/Oh Tina, Oh Marina
dann wird es wieder schön./Then it will be nice again.

I think this song is somehow heartbreaking even with the jolly tune

Love Is In Da Blog 10 ~ A Love Song from 1949-1958 & Prompt Post for February 11th

Welcome back ladies and gentlemen, we are getting on a bit 😉 . Well, time flies when you enjoy yourself so they say and we have reached the decade after WWII. I think it was a hard decade but also a decade full of hope that the world might be able to become a better place. Na we are not going down the road of complaining about all the faults of modern times. Let’s rather share a song or two.

Yesterday I asked you to find a song from the decade of 1949-1958 and when I searched for “Charts 1949-1958” on Google I ended up with car parts and Louis Armstrong. Well, of course, I could have looked for “Music Charts 1949-1958” and gotten some more ideas but Mr Armstrong must have been one of the most influential musicians of that period even though I thought he made music way before then.

When I think of Louis Armstrong I think of “Wonderful World” one of my favourites. But he did a version of a very romantic song that people probably often connect with Audrey Hepburn and nowadays with chocolate

Yes, I know that song was created in 1961 so should be in tomorrows posts but hey I let you have some creative freedom with the Love Is In Da Blog posts and I embrace it myself too 🙂

The version of “Moon River” that I very much prefer is Louis Armstrong’s though. His rough voice suits the song very much in my opinion and the way he sings it expresses the longing of two people to run away together and explore the world much better.

I sometimes wonder if I’ve been born in the wrong decade 😉 . Isn’t this one of the most romantic songs ever?

Love Is In Da Blog Music Prompt for February 11th

Now we’re talking: I love the music of this decade especially the totally kitsch German songs: 1959 – 1968 let’s roll with it! 🙂

Bee’s poetry challenge for Carol anne, perhaps love…

This week, Bee has challenged me to write a poem with the words, perhaps love, in it! So here I go! I take her up on the challenge!

Perhaps love…
is a fleating thing
do I believe in it?
I am not sure
Only time will tell
Perhaps love…
Is a whisper on the wind
An action…
Love is the thing
That conquers all
Or does it?
Perhaps love…
Will grow in my heart
The longer I wait…
The longer I have faith…
Perhaps, love?
A question?
A thought?
Perhaps, perhaps
Its love…

“Love Is In Da Blog” February Ping Back Post & Rules (week 1)

Today is the day!

“Love Is In Da Blog” has started and here is the post to let you know what it is all about and how to take part.

How “Love Is In Da Blog” started

The idea created itself in a little comment conversation with Linda G. Hill last week when I realised that I was quite sad that her “Just Jot It January” will finish soon. She would do another one if she had time Linda said so I answered in jest I could do one myself.

When Linda answered that that is a great idea and a great experience, my inner artist child got mightily excited and shoved idea over idea in my creative face. I am a parent who spoils her inner artist child and for this reason, I went for it.

So what is “Love Is In Da Blog” all about?

It is a blog hop to celebrate love in all its forms. I will offer you a different topic every week which I will introduce to you on Sundays. For the rest of the week, I offer you prompts to kick-start your love-life 😉 creativity. But feel free to use your own ideas. This is all about fun and not a competition :-).

I will concentrate on poetry because that is what I do, but this hop is open to all sorts of writing as long as it is about “LOVE”.

  • You like to write one line? Be my guest.
  • You do photography? Please feel free to take part
  • You write short stories, scientific articles, flash poetry or fiction….. You all have a place here on “Love Is In Da Blog”.

The more variety, the better!

But let’s get started shall we?

“LOVE”-topic Week One

This week’s topic is “Love, in General”. To kick-start this loving hop and our ideas, we just go for what comes to mind. I will incorporate some prompts though.

Are you ready for the rules?
