John Lynes at the September 2020 XR rebellion

92 and still rocking the Street! #ClimateJusticeSaturday

I could not find out much about John Lynes from Hastings. He is 92. He got arrested. Not for the first time. He is a Quaker. He wants to do his bit for the younger generation to have a future.

I want to be like him if I ever manage to become 92!

Calling for Climate Justice in Davos 2020

Hello out there, it’s some time that I asked: How are you? Are you rocking and rolling your life? I very much hope so. Today not many words just a video by the World Economic Forum calling for climate justice from May 2020.

We might still be preoccupied with the pandemic and its consequences but just imagine what impact the climate crisis will have. We can’t grow things in drought conditions, you can’t get to work if your country is flooded and I am not even talking about massive storms. These are just some examples of the havoc the climate crisis can bring. Despite or because of the pandemic, we need to keep our minds on the future and its challenges.

Why All Americans Should Care About ‘Environmental Racismโ€™ | Video by NowThis

Hello out there all you lovely people. I hope you had a brilliant week despite everything. Please sit down, have a cup of your favourite beverage and relax a little.

But not too much please. We have work to do you know. All of us. But some are ahead of us and can explain what Environmental Justice means in their environment.

One of them is Sherri Mitchell, an Indigenous rights lawyer and activist who has fought for environmental justice for more than 25 years.

This is what she has to say:

Worker Justice is Climate Justice

Hello out there, how are you? I hope you and yours are well and if not, that you get all the help, you need. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Today, I won’t be bothering you long. I just want to introduce you to two organisations in the US: Warehouseworkers for Justice and the Peoples Climate Movement. Together they created a short video explaining why workers justice and climate justice are connected.

Here is the video and you find the link to the organisations underneath the video.

Environmental Justice is all our responsibility #ClimateJusticeSaturday

Hello out there, how are you. Yes, I am asking again because I care. And even if you do not leave a comment and answer me, know that you are in my prayers (and thoughts if you do not care for prayers) daily.

In recent months we have been pre-occupied with the COVID-19 pandemic and now with the #BlackLivesMatter revolution. However, in my opinion, both come together in one big issue that we need to address rather yesterday than tomorrow.

The idea of climate- and environmental justice brings together issues of social justice, race and other problems we struggle with. Injustices of not getting a good education and following a good job, of racism, of workers rights will become even worse when resources become scarce because of climate change. But these issues also keep climate change going. We are thinking that because we have not enough money we cannot act climate-friendly while, in fact, most climate-friendly actions mean “less is more” and therefore cost less too.

That is the reason why I keep my #ClimateJusticeSaturday series going to educate myself and you about the issues and what we can do.

Today I have chosen a short documentary by Julian Kane who is a filmmaker. His mission are documentaries that inspire people. In 2016 they brought 24 leaders together to remind ourselves and each other that climate and environmental justice is all our responsibility. Please enjoy:

#ClimateJusticeSaturday ~ Climate Warriors ~ a Film

Hello out there, how are you all, you lovely people? I know we are facing a multitude of challenges currently, but let’s remember to stop now and then and think. To look behind the current and apparent problems towards the ultimate challenge for humankind.

Climate Crisis!

From the few sources that I have read ( European Bank: Spending to counteract coronavirus creates chance to โ€œtilt to greenโ€; Harvard. T.H. Than: Coronavirus and Climate Change, WHO: Climate change and human health – risks and responses. Summary. I gather that climate change increases the transmission of viruses and will cause epi- and pandemics more often.

In the last three months, we have seen how much havoc pandemics can cause. It’s not the economy that has been saving us in the previous three months. It is doctors, nurses, farmers, cleaners… who do. We have also seen that we can do a lot of things differently and that we might not need everything that we thought we might need.

There are solutions out there, and it is time for us to grab those solutions because it is we who do the change. Not politicians. Not corporations. Not banks. We!

On Thursday, I stumbled over a film called “Climate Warriors” by a German filmmaker. It was published in 2018 and gives thoughtful insight into the fight of several climate activists from Germany and the United States. It also gives knowledge about our current energy use and how we are misled by corporations and some politicians. This film shows some solutions, and as a plus, you see Arnold Schwarzenegger vs D. Trump on climate change. ๐Ÿ™‚

This film is available on Amazon Prime for free, and you can buy it on YouTube. I could not find any other sources, but I am sure there are others too.

Here is a trailer to give you an idea.

Introducing Luisa Neubauer and why she became a climate activist #ClimateJusticeSaturday

Hello dear readers, how are you on this hopefully beautiful Saturday? I hope life is treating you well and if there is a challenge on your path, remember that you rock! You can overcome anything thrown at you.

And let’s face it, there are more than enough challenges to go around for all of us. It’s been a while since I was talking about climate activists, but I feel it is more important than ever to introduce them to us.

The media seems to preoccupy us so much with the Coronavirus and here in the UK with the upcoming full Brexit that we seem to forget that all our lives will change entirely if we do not take steps to stop the ever faster-paced change of climate.

Tommy Lee Jones on Climate Change
Quote taken from BrainyQuotes

On YouTube, I stumbled over a young woman from Germany who became a climate activist because she was worried that her school chose to only talk about it in one school lesson. She believed that it is so much of a problem that she needs to do something. So she managed to go one of the UN Climate Conferences where she met Greta Thunberg.

Her name is Luisa Neubauer and she has since become an organizer for the German “Friday for Future” demonstrations. She studies Geography in Goettingen and writes for the German WWF blog (link is in German) as well as for Project Syndicate. I encourage you to check out “Project Syndicate – The Worlds Opinion Page” as many forward-thinking scientists and politicians are writing for this online and offline magazine. I discovered it a couple of months ago when Guy Verhofstadt wrote about Brexit.

But back to Luisa Neubauer. I share with you a video of her TEDx Munich talk from 2018 in which she encourages everybody to become a climate activist. No, you don’t need to go on demonstrations or share leaflets about veganism. Just become aware of the topic, learn as much as you can and then use your influence as a consumer, voter and reader of newspapers or blogger to encourage more and more of us to do the right thing. And, of course, decide where you can change your behaviour.

I have nothing to add to this ๐Ÿ™‚ just some poetic words:

the childrens future

in our hands day by day

listen to nature

In this sense, love & rage my friends, love & rage!!!!
