Hello dear friends of music and love. How are you doing? Are you having a good cup of your favourite hot beverage at hand? A cookie or other favourite sweet? I very much hope so because sometimes we just have to spoil ourselves.

Today’ prompt is by Paula of “Light Motifs II” and is “Find a love song with or about sweets”. Thanks Paula, for this great suggestion.

I have to admit that this year’s “Love is In Da Blog” made me rather sentimental. I searched for songs of the year I was born and stumbled over a couple I listened to as a child because they were on the radio, and the radio was always on. I hated some of them as a teenager, but I never lost my fancy for kitsch and old-fashioned songs.

Paroles Paroles” which means “Words” in Italian I think is one of them. It is originally an Italian song sung by a couple in 1972 but became famous in France and Germany later on. This time Dalida and Alain Delon created the musical conversation about empty words in a relationship, and that is the version I chose.

Dalida is a French singer who was born in Egypt to Italian parents. She started her singing career in a talent contest in Cairo against the will of her mother but was eventually allowed to pursue it. Her father had a very high standing in the community she grew up in but was imprisoned by Allied forces in 1940. After his release in 1944, he came back a changed and violent man. He died when she was 12, but he had a lasting effect on her relationship with men. As far as I remember she sang in Italian, French and German, but I do not know how fluent she was in these languages. She was extremely famous in Germany in the 1970s.

Alain Delon was a French actor who came to international fame working alongside Shirley McClaine, Anthony Quinn and Andrea Cardinale. He had a short affair with Dalida in the mid-sixties. They were neighbours since the mid-fifties in Paris, and I wonder if the song was influenced by their relationship.

So here is the song. You will hear the line “Caramels, bonbons et chocolats” a couple of times which gives us the prompt connection :-). You can find the translation of the lyrics here on LyricsTranslate.
