#SongLyricSunday: Would

Hello my dear readers, how are you? I very much hope life is treating you well and if not that you have a big chocolate bar close by πŸ˜‰ . Sending you positive and healing energy anyway.

Today, I’ll introduce you to Agnes Obel a Danish musician who makes unusual and sometimes rather haunting songs and lyrics. This is courtesy of Jim over at “A Unique Title for me” who hosts “Song Lyric Sunday”. Today’s prompt is “Modal Verbs ~ Could/Might/Should/Would“. Please head over to find the rules for taking part and more incredible music posts by fellow bloggers in the comments. Thanks.

I chose to go with “would” which appears a couple of times in the lyrics of Obel’s “The Curse“. YouTube’s My Mix introduced me to her music which always speaks to me. Her unusual way of singing and songwriting always brings haunting atmospheres to mind. She doesn’t seem to be part of the mainstream music scene yet however, her tour dates and where she tours is rather impressive: She travels through Europe, the US, Canada and Mexico from January 2020 to May of the same year. I assume she has quite a following.

But enough said: Please enjoy “The Curse” by Agnes Obel (please follow the link underneath the video if it doesn’t play here on the blog):

The Curse”

And the people went into their hide, they oh
From the start they didn’t know exactly why, why
Winter came and made it so all look alike, look alike
Underneath the grass would grow, aiming at the sky

It was swift, it was just, another wave of a miracle
But no one, nothing at all would go for the kill
If they called on every soul in the land on the move
Only then would they know a blessing in disguise

The curse ruled from the underground down by the shore
And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before
The curse ruled from the underground down by the shore
And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before

Tell me now of the very souls that look alike, look alike
Do you know the stranglehold covering their eyes?
If I call on every soul in the land on the move
Tell me if I’ll ever know a blessing in disguise

The curse ruled from the underground down by the shore
And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before
And the curse ruled from the underground down by the shore
And their hope grew with a hunger to live unlike before

May you have a lovely Sunday with lots of interesting music!!!!

  1. Bee thanks for the introduction to Agnes Obel, as I found her music very enjoyable. The Curse has a metronome effect to it, as everything seems perfectly timed with each of the musicians waiting for the perfect time to strike their notes.

  2. Scary – haunting – beautiful.
I love everything about this song. Never heard it before, but Wow!
Nice video, too, as I like seeing people play instruments.

oh, by the way, I saw a comment from you in my spam folder, but it disappeared when I tried to reply. It was on Sept. 11 I think, and about superstition? You mentioned something about the UK elections – anyway, sorry I didn’t see it before. I do appreciate your comments. πŸ™‚

    • Hi, it is isn’t it. I love to discover new and different music. Don’t worry about the comment. These things happen. Unfortunately, I can’t remember what I commented on and what I wrote πŸ˜ŠπŸ™‹β€β™€οΈπŸ
