#MusicMonday ~ You Need to Calm Down

Hi peeps how are you doing in this new week of wonderment. Here in the UK the election campaign excitement is up and running. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced an election where the outcome was so unpredictable than this one. Well, soon we’ll see what we get ourselves into.

There is one thing that shocked me though and that is the amount of women politicians who can’t take the horrific on- and offline abuse anymore they are getting for doing their job. What sort of culture and society do we live in where women can’t do a public job because they get death threats because some person doesn’t agree with them. It boggles my mind and leaves me speechless.

In these cases I usually go and find some solace in music. One song and music video came to mind which always makes me laugh ever since I first saw it. Now, I know, Miss Swift is not everybodies cup of tea and the country music scene has some issue or the other with her. But her message in this one says it all in my opinion πŸ™‚

“You Need To Calm Down” by Taylor Swift

You are somebody that I don’t know
But you’re taking shots at me like it’s PatrΓ³n
And I’m just like, “Damn!
It’s 7 AM”

Say it in the street, that’s a knock-out
But you say it in a tweet, that’s a cop-out
And I’m just like, “Hey!
Are you OK?”

And I ain’t tryna mess with your self-expression
But I’ve learned the lesson
That stressing and obsessing
‘Bout somebody else is no fun
And snakes and stones never broke my bones

So, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh!
You need to calm down
You’re being too loud
And I’m just like
“Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh!
You need to just stop
Like, can you just not step on my gown?
You need to calm down”

You are somebody that we don’t know
But you’re coming at my friends like a missile
Why are you mad
When you could be GLAAD?
(You could be GLAAD)

Sunshine on the street at the parade
But you would rather be in the dark ages
Just making that sign
Must’ve taken all night

You just need to take several seats
And then try to restore the peace
And control your urges to scream
About all the people you hate
‘Cause shade never made anybody less gay

So, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh!
You need to calm down
You’re being too loud
And I’m just like
“Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh!
You need to just stop
Like, can you just not step on his gown
You need to calm down”

And we see you over there on the Internet
Comparing all the girls who are killing it
But we figured you out
We all know now
We all got crowns
You need to calm down

Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh!
You need to calm down
(You need to calm down)
You’re being too loud
(You’re being too loud)
And I’m just like
“Oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh, oh-oh!
You need to just stop
(Can you stop?)
Like, can you just not step on our gowns
You need to calm down”

Happy Monday peeps and may your week rock!!!!!

  1. Oh man, have I been living under a rock for the last couple o weeks? I had no idea t here’s an election coming up in the UK. Is it about Brexit? Anyways, I totally feel this song resonate with me in light of how some politicians get treated here too.

  2. I had never heard that one, nor seen the video … not my style of music, BUT … this made me laugh! And, as I listened to the message of the song, it spoke … it sends a powerful message, I think, and does so with humour. Thank you, dear Bee, for sharing that! It made my day/night! πŸ™‹
