Today I have chosen a book which is around since a while but its updated version will be published on Thursday. I have gotten a review copy by the author and will post a review on my other blog on Friday but I want to share it with you as well as it is a powerful book.
Sarah E. Olson and her sister have been horribly abused by a friend of the family. Sarah’s survival method was to dissociate also known as DID ~ Dissociative Identity Disorder. For survivors though this is often not a disorder rather a lifeline which has helped them to get through horrible times.
Being the host of many personalities though does create inner chaos and problems and many choose integration of the many into one. Her book shows brilliantly how such an integration can be achieved but also shows what survivors have to go through. If you are a survivor yourself you might want to take into consideration that the book does trigger.
You can find out more about Sarah E. Olson on her blog Third of a Lifetime where she does brilliant work for mental health, Post-traumatic Stress Syndrome and DID for many years!
If you want to learn what it means to survive abuse via dissociation and what it means to heal then please read her book.
And here today’s teaser:
“…”I held the bear up towards the light and said, “Howard, make it go away!” – Nita December 1991….. There was a time I never would have believed I was capable of having hallucinations, much less admitting to having them…..”
