Woops. Not sure what to do with this one. I never had to testify in a court case. The only time I’ve ever been to a court was for my divorce 12 years ago.

But I had to go to the police at one point. There was a rapist going around the little town I lived in. When I walked the dog I met a man whom I saw putting his bits away then coming up to me telling me how he was wanking. Thanks very much. I told the police about the bloke and then had to come in to identify someone.

It was like the crime shows: we were taken into the police station in a different entrance than the people we had to look at and then stood behind what was a mirror to them but a window to us. It was terrifying.

The bloke I met wasn’t there. He wasn’t the rapist. And I never heard what came from it but it caused me a lot of anxiety and started a time of flashbacks that was horrible.

My problem was that I delivered newspapers in the middle of the night on my own. In Germany they have to be delivered by 6am. Knowing a rapist was on the loose didn’t make me feel particularly happy.

I am happy though to announce I’ve been perfectly save and sound on my rounds at all times. Nothing ever happened to me there and I am eternally grateful to my guardian angel ๐Ÿ˜.

Sigh. That was hard to even remember it. It’s such a long time ago and I hardly ever think if it but some experiences never lose their scariness fully I think.

  1. Yikes – I’d be scared too. In high school, I helped a friend who had to deliver papers early in the morning. That was way back in the day we didn’t even think about strangers lurking in the shadows. Sad that’s what I immediately think of now if I have to go out in the dark.

    • A couple of years later another lady who delivered newspapers got shot. That was even worse. A little northern German town and a middle aged lady got shot… She was Eastern European and it was rumored it was a family feud. Incredible thinking of it now. But I always were aware of the dangers because my grandma always warned me. I assume she got raped in the war as she told me a man followed her and she can’t remember how she got home. It’s a hard knock live I would say… ๐Ÿ™
