Song Lyric Sunday ~ Norah Jones

In the last few weeks, I have re-discovered Norah Jones. About 10 years ago I was listening to her all the time but never heard anything about her newer songs.

“Happy Pill” is one of my favourites but the songs that I really know and love are from her debut album “Come Away With me”.

For all those who do not know her: Norah Jones is the daughter of Ravi Shankar famous Sitar player and composer and half-sister to Anoushka Shankar who used to work with their father.

Both did a beautiful song in memory of their father which I will share later on in the year.

Today though I share a song which tells a story many of us know: A partner can’t let go of a hurt given by a previous love and the actual partner has to pay for it. I think Hank Williams, who wrote the song, put the pain that is kept in a vicious circle beautifully.

Even though a sad topic I don’t believe it is a sad song. Just sit and enjoy 🙂

Lyrics by A-Z Lyrics

“Cold, Cold Heart”

I tried so hard,my dear,to show that you’re my every dream
Yet you’re afraid each thing I do is just some evil scheme
A memory from your lonesome past keeps us so far apart
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?Another love before my time made your heart sad and blue
And so my heart is paying now for things I didn’t do
In anger, unkind words are said that make the teardrops start
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?

You’ll never know how much it hurts to see you sit and cry
You know you need and want my love, yet you’re afraid to try
Why do you run and hide from life, to try it just ain’t smart
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?

There was a time when I believed that you belonged to me
But now I know your heart is shackled to a memory
The more I learn to care for you, the more we drift apart
Why can’t I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?
