Song Lyric Sunday ~ Wrong Side of Heaven

A few weeks ago when I was recycling some of my posts I stumbled over the song “Wrong Side of Heaven” by Five Fingers Death Punch. I don’t really have words of what impact that song had on me.
I can say one thing though: I discovered a new band that I like and my goodness me I would never have thought I would go for that sort of music 🙂
I posted the song on Twitter and wrote this:

That tweet is the reason for this post. I feel like I need to say a little more about this topic.

I am against war. I do not think it is an adequate means to solve problems between people, countries and cultures. However, I have never believed that I could be as strong as Martin Luther King or Gandhi. If there is someone standing in front of me who tries to kill me and I have a gun or other weapon I am sure I would shoot first. My survival instinct is too strong.

I also do not believe that non-violent resistance would work against organisations like the so-called IS. I also always had trouble to understand why a man or woman would choose to be a soldier. Even though I know someone has to do the job I find it difficult to understand.

Especially, as I believe that nations and governments use soldiers to their ends and when they come back, are spent and suffer from PTSD or worse they just let them down. Our society should spend their taxes to help those who have fought for us to keep us safe and not on more and more money for politicians or fewer taxes for corporations.

This is a very difficult topic for me. On the one hand, I believe that non-violent resistance is the better way but I think humankind isn’t there yet. And I have learned to respect the violence in my heart. It is part of me but I have learned to control it.

I ramble I know. Maybe I just leave it at that point and let you hear the song and read the lyrics.

Lyrics thanks to A-Z Lyrics

“Wrong Side Of Heaven”

I spoke to God today, and she said that she’s ashamed.
What have I become, what have I done?
I spoke to the Devil today, and he swears he’s not to blame.
And I understood, cause I feel the same.Arms wide open, I stand alone.
I’m no hero, and I’m not made of stone.
Right or wrong, I can hardly tell.
I’m on the wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side of hell.
The wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side, righteous side of hell.I heard from God today, and she sounded just like me.
What have I done, and who have I become.
I saw the Devil today, and he looked a lot like me.
I looked away, I turned away!

Arms wide open, I stand alone.
I’m no hero, and I’m not made of stone.
Right or wrong, I can hardly tell.
I’m on the wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side of hell.
The wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side, the righteous side of hell.

I’m not defending, downward descending,
Falling further and further away!
Getting closer every day!

I’m getting closer every day, to the end.
To the end, the end, the end,
I’m getting closer every day!

Arms wide open, I stand alone.
I’m no hero, and I’m not made of stone.
Right or wrong, I can hardly tell.
I’m on the wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side of hell.
The wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side of hell.
The wrong side of heaven, and the righteous side, the righteous side of hell.

PS.:Shame their guitarist Zoltan Bathory is a Trump fan 😦

  1. This is such a powerful piece Bee. I agree with you… I only wish we were ready to meet violence with peace, but we aren’t. I loved your song choice. I’m still shocked that I love music like this. ?

    Thanks so much for sharing!
