“Love Is In Da Blog” ~ Love is a Battlefield

Oh dear, I am not very romantic with my posts in this Valentine’s week. I apologise but having been abused in my childhood and been later on in a violent relationship makes that song by Pat Benatar “Love is a Battlefield” somehow a motto when it comes to love and me.

I believe I am healed from both, but I just can’t let myself drown in all that romantic dolalla without being aware of the darker sides of love. May it be violence in relationships or the discrimination people with different sexual orientation have to experience. Not that I have anything against romance. In fact, I have started to read romance novels that I would never have thought I would do as a teenager. There is nothing wrong with a romantic comedy and losing oneself in it.

To be honest, all these darker experiences make me very grateful for the respectful and happy relationship I am in now. So today my prompt encourages you to look at the darker sides of love or just to show us your thoughts about the song. Maybe you remember what you have done when listening to it for the first time?

Feel free to use it in whatever way your muses lead you to πŸ™‚

  1. I love this prompt! Personally, I prefer to explore the darker side of the “love story.” I never liked stories with happy endings….not that unhappy endings are better, they just seem more real, if that makes sense.

  2. When I say that I understand, it’s just words. But, if you read the words in my post, I think it’ll be clear that I do.

For me, learning to accept the good in my marriage, the romance, and my Accomplice’s faults (as well as my own, and the kids’), has been deeply affected by the carnage left behind in childhood…the two are inextricably bound up in one another.

This wasn’t an easy post to write, but I think there’s healing in it.

Sending you long distance hugs today. ((((Bee))))
